Overview

Boston University London provides a Study Abroad experience for its students. The campus is spread across a number of sites within South Kensington that includes classrooms, offices, halls of residence and staff accommodation.

The network is viewed as a critical service and has many dependencies that are essential to the success of the University. For students it enables access to classes, content, research and communications with family and friends. For teachers it enables the delivery of classes, administration and for staff it enables them to access systems and platforms they rely on for every day management of the University.

The existing network was made up of multiple vendors, which while not uncommon had resulted in an overly complex environment to manage. The students bandwidth usage had over the years also increased as had the number of devices that each student would want to connect to the network. Bottlenecks and dropouts were frequent.

Cloud Managed Full Stack Network

Roadmap have since replaced the whole network stack across all the sites. This includes Firewalls, Switches and Wireless Access Points. The single vendor approach has brought many benefits and it is now possible to manage and report on network services across the whole network.

Quality of service has been introduced to a number of key services to ensure guaranteed performance. Dead zones and high usage areas on the wireless network are now easy to identify and remedy. The solution is scalable and the onsite teams can easily add additional wireless access points while Roadmap configure them remotely.

The network is now more resilient and high availability and configurations ensure failures have minimal impact.
